. Ayanda™ MEA Biochip Products

    MEA60 Biochips (8x8 matrix)
    The used electrode arrangement is a 8x8 matrix without corner electrodes of 40 µm x 40 µm metallic electrodes with an interspacing of 200 µm or 100 µm (centre to centre), building a workspace about 2 square millimeters in the center of the biochip. The electrodes allow stimulation of and recording from cells or tissue placed on top of it. We currently produce 6 different types of standard Ayanda™ MEA biochips as described below.

    Common characteristics are:
    Substrate material: Glass plate (15 mm x 15 mm x 0.7 mm); Insulation material: SU-8 epoxy (thickness: 5 µm); Electrode array layout: 60 electrodes in a 8x8 matrix without corner electrodes; Required accessory: MEA Spa-Y1 or MEA Spa-Y2.
    MEA60 100 3D
    Electrode material: platinum; Electrode geometry: 3D tip-shaped (electrode height: 25 - 35 µm); Electrode dimensions: 30 µm circular electrodes; Electrode spacing: 100 µm (centre to centre); Electrode impedance at 1 kHz: 600 - 900 kΩ; Noise level: 15 - 20 µV; Applications: Acute slice preparations or organotypic slice cultures (brain tissue, spinal cord, etc.); Re-use: acute slices up to 100 times, organotypic cultures several times.

    MEA60 100 Au
    Electrode material: gold; Electrode geometry: planar; Electrode dimensions: 30 µm circular electrodes; Electrode spacing: 100 µm (centre to centre); Electrode impedance at 1 kHz: 1000 - 1300 kΩ; Noise level: 25 - 30 µV; Applications: Organotypic slice cultures and dissociated cell cultures (brain tissue, spinal cord, retina, heart muscle cells, etc.); Re-use: Several times depending on type and duration of cultures.

    MEA60 100 Pt
    Electrode material: platinum; Electrode geometry: planar; Electrode dimensions: 30 µm circular electrodes; Electrode spacing: 100 µm (centre to centre); Electrode impedance at 1 kHz: 800 - 1100 kΩ; Noise level: 20 - 25 µV; Applications: Organotypic slice cultures and dissociated cell cultures (brain tissue, spinal cord, retina, heart muscle cells, etc.); Re-use: Several times depending on type and duration of cultures.

    Electrode material: platinum; Electrode geometry: 3D tip-shaped (electrode height: 50 - 70 µm); Electrode dimensions: 40 µm x 40 µm square electrodes; Electrode spacing: 200 µm (centre to centre); Electrode impedance at 1 kHz: 250 - 450 kΩ; Noise level: 15 - 20 µV; Applications: Acute slice preparations or organotypic slice cultures (brain tissue, spinal cord, etc.); Re-use: acute slices up to 100 times, organotypic cultures several times.

    MEA60 Biochips with integrated GND (8x8 matrix)
    The used electrode arrangement is a 8x8 matrix without corner electrodes of 40 µm circular metallic electrodes with an interspacing of 200 µm (centre to centre), building a workspace about 2 square millimeters in the center of the biochip. The electrodes allow stimulation of and recording from cells or tissue placed on top of it. One of the 60 recording electrodes has been replaced by a large (1 square mm) electrode that can be used as substrate integrated GND reference electrode. We currently produce 3 different types of these Ayanda™ MEA biochips as described below.

    Common characteristics are:
    Substrate material: Glass plate (15 mm x 15 mm x 0.7 mm); Insulation material: SU-8 epoxy (thickness: 5 µm); Electrode array layout: 59 electrodes in a 8x8 matrix without corner electrodes, one large GND electrode; Electrode dimensions: 40 µm circular electrodes; Electrode spacing: 200 µm (centre to centre); Required accessory: MEA Spa-Y1 or MEA Spa-Y2.

    The used electrode arrangement is a 5x13 matrix without corner electrodes of 40 µm circular metallic electrodes with an interspacing of 140 and 200 µm (centre to centre), building a workspace about 1 square millimeter in the center of the biochip. The electrodes allow stimulation of and recording from cells or tissue placed on top of it. We currently produce 3 different types of these Ayanda™ MEA biochips as described below.

    Common characteristics are:
    Substrate material: Glass plate (15 mm x 15 mm x 0.7 mm); Insulation material: SU-8 epoxy (thickness: 5 µm); Electrode array layout: 60 electrodes in a 5x13 matrix; Electrode dimensions: 40 µm circular electrodes; Electrode spacing: 140 and 200 µm (centre to centre); Required accessory: MEA Spa-Y1 or MEA Spa-Y2.

    MEA60 Biochips based on larger glass substrates
    The used electrode arrangement is a 8x8 matrix without corner electrodes of 40 µm x 40 µm metallic electrodes with an interspacing of 200 µm (centre to centre), building a workspace about 2 square millimeters in the center of the biochip. It also includes 4 large GND electrodes and 4 pairs of supplementary stimulation electrodes. The stimulation electrode dimensions are 50 µm x 250 µm. The electrodes allow stimulation of and recording from cells or tissue placed on top of it.

    Common characteristics are:
    Substrate material: Glass plate (21 mm x 21 mm x 0.7 mm); Insulation material: SU-8 epoxy (thickness: 5 µm); Required accessory: MEA Spa-Y2, MEA1060-Y1 or MEA1060-Y2
